Tips for Locating Materials

  • Before making an appointment to do research in our reading room, determine what items you need to see from Archives and Special Collections. Often, they must be retrieved before your visit.
  • In some cases, you may find digitized items among the records that simply describe a collection you might request.
  • Use the UCSF Library Catalog. Go to the Advanced tab and limit the Material Type to Archival Materials & Manuscripts.

  • Search the Online Archive of California (OAC). Find descriptions and finding aids for archives and manuscript collections.

  • Search the HathiTrust Digital Library. Find more than 2,000 UCSF university publications, yearbooks, pamphlets, and books dating back from 16th century through 2000s.
